The U.S. Open Championship was first held in October 1895 as a tournament of the National Golf Association and signaled the beginning of what has become one of Americas favorite pasttimes. The image at right shows Horace Rawlins, the champion from that first U.S. Open Championship which had eleven entrants including Willie Dunn, W.F. Davis, Willie Campbell, James Foulis, John Reid, W. Smith, Samuel Tucker, Willie Norton, John Harland, and John Patrick.
