Throughout 1999, members at the Country Club of Waterbury proudly celebrated 100 years as an organization — placing it among the oldest continuously operating clubs in the state, as well as in the country. Indeed, as the third club to join the Connecticut State Golf Association, the history of the club ties closely with the history of golf in the state of Connecticut and elsewhere throughout the country.
In commemoration of this milestone, the club published its first known historical tribute covering many aspects of club history, early membership, the construction of the Donald Ross design we enjoy today, and the beginnings of golf in Waterbury. Researched and written by club member Charles A. Monagan, the book is a fitting tribute to this fine club and also proved to be a valuable research tool during the creation of this site. Much of the material contained within this site dealing with the club history was derived from this Centennial publication and we're grateful, once again, to Charley for his original efforts.
Several celebrations were held during the Centennial year, including a special celebration in August and the President's Ball in November. New members can view the Centennial book at the clubhouse or purchase a copy in the Pro Shop.
